Would anyone be interested in playing in a game of Donjon?
I'd love to run a game on June 28th or any Thursday after that. The one caveat is that I'll have to end the game no later than 9:00 (my kid has summer school).
I plan on making a session that will be somewhat based on one of the old 1st edition modules. It should be a ton of fun.
One of the best things about Donjon, is that you can read the rules for free online on the designer's site. They're here. You can also buy a pdf of the game from any of the usual pdf vendors. And I'm certain that I saw a copy at EndGame one time... but I'm not sure if that's a regular thing or not (to my knowledge no print editions exist...)
At any rate... even if you don't read the rules, you're welcome to play. It's pretty quick to pick up.
The basic gist is that you roll several D20s for any task. The GM rolls an opposing pool of D20s. Whoever has the highest number on a single die wins the roll. The winner counts how many dice they have which are higher than the loser's highest die and these count as "successes."
Example:
You, the player, roll 5 dice to search for a secret door (I'm picking an arbitrary number, here... the actual amount would be based on your stats and skills).
I, the GM, figure out that I'm rolling 6 dice (again, there's a formula, but we won't get in to that).
You roll well and get: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17
I don't roll quite as well and get: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
You win, and get 2 successes (your 16 and 17 are over my 15).
Now the cool part.
Let's say that I didn't write a secret door in to the adventure right there. Well.. each success you get, you can either use it as a bonus to a roll related to this one... OR...
You can state a fact about the situation.
You want a secret door there? You got it.
It's the combination of bonus *or* fact that end up making things really interesting. But... you'll just have to play to see
I'd like to get two to four players in addition to myself. Five plus me will be my max. I kind of freak out running games larger than that, and obviously with a game like this too many cooks can *definitely* spoil the pot.
Anyone interested, post here or email me at:
